Anastasia is a patterned cloth with a generous scale, woven from wool and cotton with a small amount of polyester for stability. The hand is soft and a little dry, in the way good wool blends are, and it falls into rounded, easy folds rather than stiff pleats. Amber Marine pairs a warm, resinous amber with a deep sea blue, and the two sit close enough in tone that the pattern reads as a slow movement across the cloth, not a loud statement. It adds depth to a room without competing with it.

The composition is 62% wool, 25% cotton and 13% polyester. The cloth is 132 cm wide, with a vertical repeat of 100 cm and a horizontal repeat of 67 cm. That is a large repeat, so the pattern has room to breathe, and you will see it properly only once a full width is hung. It is sold by the half metre. We have not been given a Martindale figure for this cloth, as it is sold for curtains, which is how we would treat it.

We would use Anastasia for full-length curtains in a living room or a principal bedroom, where the height lets the repeat show itself. It also suits a generous pair at a large sash window, or a pair framing a bay. For pairings, we would keep the walls plain, in a soft plaster or chalk white, and bring in a plain wool or linen in a related blue for a cushion or a pelmet lining, so the pattern is the only thing speaking.

A repeat of 100 cm means you will lose cloth to matching, so order more than you think you need and have your workroom calculate drops to the repeat before you commit. We would line and interline these curtains, which gives the wool a better fall and protects the amber from sun. Ask for a fully pattern-matched pair, with the motifs aligned across the leading edges, and hang a full width in your own light before cutting.
