Ballroom is woven with a silk warp against a linen and wool weft, and the two fibres behave differently under light: the silk carries a low sheen while the linen and wool give the cloth its body, so a curtain holds sculptural folds rather than falling flat. Several weave structures are combined in the one cloth, which is what produces the softly mottled surface, closer to the patina of an old mirror than to anything printed. At 144 cm wide with a 72 cm repeat in both directions it is a curtain cloth first, and full-length is where the weight tells. Allow for the repeat when ordering, and expect the colour to move as the light changes through the day. Four colourways, from the cream of Crystal to the charcoal of Fireplace.
