de Le Cuona | Calligraphy Cashmere Scarf – Ink

This is a cashmere scarf rather than a furnishing fabric, but we sell it because it behaves like one, a length of soft, fine-gauge knit that clients drape over a chair back or fold at the end of a bed as readily as they wear it out of the house. De Le Cuona work in cashmere with the same attention they bring to their upholstery weaves, so the hand is soft but substantial, with a good weight and a slight give across the width that makes it fold well without creasing hard.

The scarf is sold by the each as a finished piece, not cut from a bolt, in a width of 70cm. Ink is a deep, near-black blue, dense enough to read as neutral against most interiors palettes but with a warmth that shifts under different light. We keep a length in the studio to show clients how the colour behaves against grey, taupe and warm timber before they commit to it in a bedroom or study.

In the house we use it thrown over the arm of a bergère, folded at the foot of a bed, or looped loosely on a hook by a boot room door where it earns its keep as much as it decorates. It sits comfortably with de Le Cuona's own cloths, and we often pair Ink with their heavier linens and washed cottons so the whole room reads as one considered palette rather than separate pieces stacked together.

There is no making up required, no cutting or matching, since this comes finished and ready to use. We would simply ask a client to treat it as they would any fine cashmere, storing it folded rather than on a hanger, keeping it away from direct sun if left out on furniture for long periods, and having it cleaned by a specialist rather than at home. It is a small piece, but it changes the temperature of a room quickly.
