de Le Cuona | Elizabeth Throw with Fringe & Suede Edge – Pheasant

This is a throw with proper weight behind it, the kind you drape over an arm and watch it fall rather than sit flat. The fringe along one end and the suede binding along the edges give it a finished, considered hand, and the Pheasant colourway reads as a deep, warm brown with the sort of tonal movement you get in a good tweed. We find it does the job a throw is meant to do, which is soften a hard edge of furniture and bring a room down to a more lived-in scale.

The throw measures 135cm in width and is sold as each, so what you see is a single finished piece rather than fabric off a roll. De Le Cuona make it with their usual attention to the suede detailing, which is stitched on rather than glued, and the fringe is knotted by hand along the one edge. There is no repeat to speak of here, as this is a finished object rather than a length of cloth, but the texture of the weave itself has enough interest to carry a room on its own.

We tend to use the Elizabeth throw over the arm of a large upholstered sofa, folded loosely rather than pressed into a hard line, or across the foot of a bed where it catches the light differently to the linen or wool beneath it. It pairs well against plain linens and heavier wool weaves, and we have used it in studies over a leather club chair where the suede edge picks up the leather tone in the room without matching it exactly.

There is little making up involved, as this arrives finished, but we would say to check the throw against the actual sofa or bed length before ordering, since 135cm is generous over a chair arm but reads differently across a super king. Keep it away from direct sun for any length of time, as the suede edge will fade before the wool body does. Store it folded rather than rolled when not in use, to keep the fringe from crushing, and give it a light shake out before it goes back on display.
