This is the throw we bring out when a client wants something with real hand in it, woven from llama fibre on a loom rather than machine knitted, which gives it a slightly irregular, slubbed surface that catches light unevenly in a way that manufactured wool rarely does. Natural cream is undyed, so the colour has the warmth and variation you get from a fibre left in its own state.
It is de Le Cuona's Handwoven Llama Throw, sold as each, 100cm wide, in llama wool. Being handwoven, the piece carries small irregularities across its width, which we treat as part of the character rather than a flaw.
We use it over a reading chair by a window where the natural light shows the texture of the weave, folded across a bed as the top layer over cotton or linen bedding, or laid along an ottoman at the foot of a bed. It sits particularly well against de Le Cuona's plainer linens, where the contrast of hand-loomed wool against smooth cloth gives a room some texture without adding colour.
There is no making up involved, though we do suggest airing a handwoven piece like this outside occasionally to keep the natural fibre fresh, rather than washing it at home. Given the hand-loomed construction, we advise clients not to expect perfect symmetry at the edges, and to fold it loosely rather than pressing it flat, so the texture of the weave stays visible when it is displayed.
