The Herder blanket is a plain, densely woven wool piece with the kind of weight that makes it sit properly on a bed rather than sliding off. There is no pattern to speak of, just the texture of the weave itself, which gives it a quiet, slightly rustic surface that reads as handmade even where the finish is neat and controlled. It is the sort of blanket we reach for when a room needs warmth without decoration.

Woven in wool and finished in cream, the Herder measures 150cm wide, made by de Le Cuona, whose wool blankets we have used for their consistency of hand across a run. There is no directional repeat to match, so it can be laid, folded or turned without concern for pattern alignment.

We use the Herder folded across the foot of a bed, laid over a linen or wool sofa, or kept in a basket by an armchair for cooler evenings. It pairs easily with the studio's plainer linens and with darker wools, where the cream reads as a lift rather than a contrast, and it works equally well in a bedroom, a snug or a hallway bench seat.

As a finished blanket rather than fabric by the metre, there is no cutting or railroading to plan, though it is worth checking the 150cm width against the bed or sofa it is intended for before ordering, particularly on a larger bed where two might be wanted rather than one. We would air it outdoors occasionally to keep the wool fresh, store it folded rather than compressed, and have it dry cleaned rather than washed at home to protect the weave.
