The Mackintosh Cushion is a small cushion with an inserted fringe, which gives it movement along the edge that a plain cover cannot offer. The fringe catches the light and shifts slightly when you touch it, so the cushion feels more like a considered object than a filler. Copper is a warm, burnished tone with a soft glow rather than a hard metallic shine, and it brings a note of colour to a restrained room without announcing itself. At 35 cm it is a compact size, best treated as an accent.
The cushion measures 35 cm in width and is sold each. We have not been given a composition or a country of manufacture for this piece, and we would prefer to leave those out than to suggest something that is not confirmed. The fringe is inserted into the seam rather than sewn on top, so it sits cleanly at the edge and falls naturally. Because the size is small, it works best in company, layered in front of larger cushions rather than standing alone on a big sofa.
We tend to use the Mackintosh on an armchair or a daybed, where its scale suits the seat, and on a bed as a small front layer over two larger pillows. It also looks well in a window seat or a bedroom corner where a little warmth is wanted. For pairings, we would place Copper with deep greens and inky blues, or against natural linen and grey flannel, where the warm tone lifts the scheme without taking over.
The fringe needs a little care, so we would suggest brushing it gently with your fingers to keep it falling evenly, and avoiding anything that could snag it. Keep the cushion out of strong sunlight and away from damp, and spot clean only if needed, testing on a hidden area first. When arranging a group, place the fringe where it can hang freely rather than being pressed against a cushion or the arm of a chair.
