This is a merino throw finished with a blanket stitch, the old hand edge that sits along the border and stops the cut end looking raw. Ocean is a deep, settled blue, the colour of water on an overcast day rather than a holiday postcard. Merino gives the throw a soft, fine hand that sits easily against the skin, and it drapes rather than stiffens, so it falls into folds over an arm or a bed end. In a room it adds a single calm note of colour and a little tactile weight.

We have not been given a length, a weight or a place of manufacture for this piece, so please ask us before you buy if the exact size matters, for instance for a particular bed or sofa. We tend to fold Ocean lengthways across the foot of a bed, where it works against white or ivory linen and brings in depth without the weight of a bedspread. It also works over the arm of a sofa or a reading chair, or draped across the back of a settee in a sitting room. Pair it with oatmeal, stone and soft grey, or let it sit beside a rust or tobacco cushion for contrast, since the blue pulls warm tones forward.
As an accessory it needs no fitting, but a few habits keep merino looking right. Follow the care label supplied with the throw, and in general we would avoid hot washing and tumble drying, which can felt the wool. Shake it out and air it rather than washing it often, and store it folded with a cedar block in a cupboard to keep moths away.
