de Le Cuona | Nomad Merino Wool Throw – Ocean

The Nomad throw is woven from merino, so it has a finer, softer hand than a coarser wool blanket, with a surface that drapes rather than sits stiffly. It is a piece designed to be handled often, picked up and pulled over a knee or folded loosely at the end of a sofa, and the merino keeps it light in weight while still giving proper warmth. The plain construction lets the colour do the work.

It is woven in merino wool, finished in a deep ocean blue, and measures 130cm wide. Made by de Le Cuona, a house we return to for the quality of their wool sourcing and the way their throws hold their colour and shape after repeated use. There is no pattern repeat to speak of, the interest being entirely in the fibre and the depth of the dye.

We would use the Nomad over the arm of a reading chair, folded at the foot of a bed, or laid across a sofa where a note of blue is wanted against paler linens or neutral wools. It is a good pairing with de Le Cuona's own plainer weaves, or against a cream Herder blanket, where the two throws can be layered for both colour and texture.

As with the other throws in this range, there is no cutting or making up involved, so the only real check is the 130cm width against the sofa, bed or chair it is meant for, particularly if it is to cover rather than simply drape. We would recommend dry cleaning to keep the merino's softness intact, and storing it folded rather than on a hook, which can distort the weave over time.
