de Le Cuona | Pure 5 – Chalk Parchment

Pure 5 is a linen with a quiet design worked into it, and in Chalk Parchment the colour is a soft, warm off-white, the shade of good writing paper rather than a bright white. The pattern repeats at 35 cm in both directions, a scale small enough to read as texture from across a room and large enough to reward a closer look. It sits very well in rooms where we want depth without anything that could be called a pattern in the loud sense.

This is a 100% organic linen from de Le Cuona, reference PURV01. It is 270 cm wide, which is the figure that matters most here. That width means the cloth can be used with the weave running across the width for tall windows, so you can often avoid horizontal seams altogether. The vertical and horizontal repeat are both 35 cm. We have not been given a Martindale figure or country of making, so we would not want to quote one. It is sold in lengths of 0.5m.

We tend to use Chalk Parchment for full-length curtains in a living room or main bedroom, especially where the ceilings are generous and the extra width allows a generous, relaxed fullness. Hung floor to ceiling on a slim track or a plain pole, it gives a room height and softness together. We would pair it with warm white walls, limed oak, and a heavier textured fabric on the nearest chair, so the linen has something to contrast against.

The repeat needs planning, so tell your workroom the 35 cm repeat when you give them measurements and ask them to allow extra for pattern matching across panels. Because the cloth is wide, we would ask whether it can be railroaded, but confirm that with the maker first, since the design is not necessarily directional in the way you might assume. Linen relaxes and can shift in length after hanging, so ask for the hems to be left a touch long and adjusted once the curtains have settled. Lining is advisable for light-coloured linen.
