Bambù Wall is a vinyl wallcovering on a non-woven backing, embossed so that the surface carries the texture of a natural weave. The colour is not laid on flat: it vibrates gently across the roll, catching in the embossed grain and lifting away from it, so a papered wall reads as a woven one from a couple of paces. It is a practical surface as well as a quiet one, being both fire-retardant and light-resistant, which is why it holds up in corridors and stairwells.
Made in Italy, 100 per cent vinyl on a non-woven ground. Each roll is 67.5 centimetres wide and 4.7 metres long. Seven colourways: 001 Grey, 002 Platino, 003 Argentoro, 004 Luna, 005 Aura, 006 Oro antico and 007 Sandstone. Grey, Luna and Sandstone are the neutral group; Platino, Argentoro and Oro antico carry a metallic cast that comes alive under lamplight and stays subtle in daylight.
We use it in halls, stairwells and dining rooms, where a textured wall gives a room depth without adding pattern, and behind a bed as a full wall with plain paint elsewhere. It works with oak, brass, lime plaster and undyed linen, and it takes a picture well. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hang it by pasting the wall, as the non-woven backing is dimensionally stable and goes up dry. Count drops rather than square metres: on a ceiling under about 2.3 metres you get two drops from a roll, so a 4 metre wall takes three rolls; above that height a roll yields one drop and the same wall takes six. Reverse alternate drops to even out the shading, and allow a spare roll.
