DEDAR | Connections 1925/1983

Connections 1925/1983 comes from a preparatory drawing Anni Albers made for a rug at the Bauhaus, now held at the Museum of Modern Art, which Dedar have translated into a woven cloth. The design is built from linked blocks and bars that shift across the width without settling into an obvious repeat. Woven rather than printed, the pattern is made from the structure of the cloth itself, so the blocks differ in surface as well as in colour and the whole thing changes as the light moves across it.

Woven in Italy from 34 per cent viscose, 17 per cent cotton, 13 per cent modal, 12 per cent polyester, 11 per cent wool, 11 per cent polyamide and 2 per cent silk. It is 136 centimetres wide and tested at 14,000 rubs on the Martindale scale, which puts it at curtains, cushions and light decorative seating rather than daily upholstery. Five colourways: 001 Red / Bordeaux, 002 Tabacco, 003 Lagoon, 004 Brown / Bronze and 005 Blue.

We make it into full-length curtains where the pattern has room to run, into flat Roman blinds, and into large cushions on a plain sofa. It pairs with undyed linen, plain wool and mid-oak, and we would let it be the only pattern in the room. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

The design runs across the width rather than up the length, so on tall curtains you may want it railroaded; check with your maker before ordering, as it changes the quantity entirely. Line and interline curtains to give the weave weight and to protect the silk content from light. Allow a full repeat extra per drop for matching across a pair.
