This Danae puts the metallic embroidery on Aristotele, a textural and deliberately irregular ground, so the drawn figures stand out more sharply than they do on the woollen version. More than forty thousand stitches in metallic thread trace a winding, dissolving line that never loses its detail. The density is varied on purpose: some passages build up into small raised ridges, others thin until the weave shows through, and between the two the surface keeps changing as you move past it.
Made in Italy. The ground is 47 per cent viscose, 20 per cent cotton, 15 per cent polyester, 14 per cent linen, 2 per cent polyamide and 2 per cent wool; the embroidery is 38 per cent viscose, 30 per cent polyester, 18 per cent metallic polyester, 8 per cent polyamide and 6 per cent paper yarn. Tested at 20,000 rubs on the Martindale scale, the cushion measures 68 by 85 centimetres. Three colourways: 001 Metal / Ivory, 002 Brown / Bronze and 003 Ivory.
We use it on a plain sofa in a drawing room, on a bedroom chair near a lamp, or as one of a pair at the head of a bed. Around it we keep flat cream, stone and charcoal cushions and avoid putting a second metallic anywhere near it. Sold individually; made to order in Italy, so allow a few weeks.
The line is directional and off-centre, so the orientation is a decision to make at order stage; a mirrored pair reads better than two identical panels. Metallic and paper yarns will crush, so treat it as a decorative cushion rather than one to lean on. Made to order in Italy and not returnable.
