Paradiso Paisley is a pure wool satin, digitally printed with a motif taken from the reverse side of a traditional paisley shawl. Printing the back rather than the front is the whole idea: the drawing arrives slightly softened, the colours sit one step back from where you expect them, and the curved tear-drop forms read as remembered rather than reproduced. Wool satin has weight and a fluid, heavy drape, with a low sheen on the face that makes the printed colour look deep rather than surface-bright.
Woven and printed in Italy in 100 per cent wool and tested at 18,000 rubs on the Martindale scale. It is sold as a panel of 140 by 112 centimetres. Six colourways: 001 Grey, 002 Red / Bordeaux, 003 Blue, 021 Argento, 022 Red / Bordeaux and 024 Olive. Grey and Argento are the quiet pair; Red / Bordeaux and Olive carry real depth of colour and want a plainer room around them.
At this size we treat it as a made piece rather than as yardage: laid over the end of a bed or the arm of a sofa, made up into a pair of large cushions, stretched and framed as a panel above a chest, or used as the face of a small blind. It sits well with plain wool, undyed linen and walnut. Sold per panel; order a sample before committing.
Because the panel is a fixed size, the design is placed for you and cannot be re-centred, so plan the piece around the panel rather than the other way round. Wool satin frays readily once cut, so have the edges overlocked or bound as soon as it is opened up, and ask for any cushions to be cut from a single panel so the print runs continuously across the pair.
