DEDAR | Pin002 Lipcord

Pin002 is a fine lipcord, the cord 8 millimetres across with a flat flange for setting into a seam. Cotton makes up the largest part of the blend, so the hand is dry and the twist matt, with just enough rayon in it to lift the colour where the light falls. It is a quiet cord, the sort used to define a shape rather than to decorate it, and at this diameter it sits neatly on smaller pieces.

Composition is 46 per cent cotton, 30 per cent rayon, 22 per cent polyester and 2 per cent other fibres, with a 0.8 centimetre cord. Made in Italy. Two colourways: 001 Marzapane, a pale marzipan cream, and 002 Liquirizia, a deep liquorice black. The pair is deliberate, one to vanish into a pale cover and one to outline it, and both are worth trying on the same cloth before you choose.

We use it piping the seams of a small armchair or a dining chair seat, round scatter cushions, and along the front edge of a loose cover where the cord keeps the line from sagging. It suits plain linens, wools and cotton velvets. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

The flange is sewn into the seam, so order the trim in time for it to reach your upholsterer before the cover is fitted. Corners want the flange notched so the cord turns square, and joins should be made on the bias and worked by hand. Measure the seam run, add 15 per cent for joins and corners, and order the whole quantity together. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
