DEDAR | Pin005 Lipcord

Pin005 is a lipcord with a 1 centimetre cord and a flat flange to take it into a seam. Cotton is the largest part of the blend, so the twist is dry and matt, with acrylic giving body and a small amount of rayon lifting the light on the crowns of the spiral. It is firm rather than soft, which is what you want in a cord that has to hold a straight line along the front of a seat.

Composition is 42 per cent cotton, 29 per cent acrylic, 15 per cent rayon and 14 per cent polyester, with a 1 centimetre cord. Made in Italy. One colourway, 001 Marzapane-liquirizia, pale cream and near-black twisted together. Read close to it is a fine two-tone spiral; from a few paces it settles into a soft mid-tone, which means it will sit against either a light or a dark cover without argument.

We use it as piping on dining and occasional chairs, round the edges of scatter and seat cushions, and along the front rail of a loose cover to keep that line honest. Plain wool, linen and cotton velvet are the grounds we pair it with most. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

The flange is sewn into the seam, so the trim needs to be with your upholsterer before the cover is made up. Notch the flange at corners so the cord turns square, and put any join at a back corner where the spiral match will not be studied. Measure the seam, add 15 per cent, and order the full length at once. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
