DEDAR | Pin007 Braid

Pin007 is a flat braid 22 millimetres wide, woven in Italy in rayon with a trace of polyester. The plait is tight and regular, giving a small repeating chevron across the face and a firm, slightly springy handle. Unlike a ribbon it has a little thickness, so where it is applied you see a raised band and a shadow at each side, which is why a braid reads more strongly than a flat tape of the same width.

Composition is 99 per cent rayon with 1 per cent polyester, finished 2.2 centimetres wide. Made in Italy. One colourway, 001 Marzapane-liquirizia, cream and near-black plaited together. The two tones alternate along the braid, so the chevron structure is legible at close range and the whole thing settles to a soft grey line further off, which makes it usable on pale and dark cloth alike.

We apply it as a border on curtain leading edges, round the edge of a pelmet or a fitted valance, and as a narrow band on the face of a cushion. It also does good work on a drum lampshade, run round both the top and the bottom rings. Plain grounds suit it best, wool, linen or velvet. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

A braid is applied on the face rather than in the seam, so it is stitched down along both edges by hand or with a fine machine line. Corners want a mitre folded into the braid itself so the plait turns rather than bunches. Measure the run, add 15 per cent for mitres and finished ends, and order in one length. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
