DEDAR | Pin009 Ribbon

Pin009 is a flat ribbon 9 centimetres wide, woven in Italy in pure rayon. At this width it stops being a trim and becomes a band: a broad, fluid strip with the soft lustre rayon gives and rather more drape than a cotton tape of the same size. Both edges are woven clean. Laid on a plain cloth it behaves like a stripe you have placed exactly where you want it, which is the point of a wide ribbon.

Composition is 100 per cent rayon, finished 9 centimetres wide. Made in Italy. One colourway, 001 Marzapane-liquirizia, a two-tone of pale marzipan cream and near-black liquorice. Because the contrast is carried within the ribbon itself it does the work of two trims at once, and it will read from across a room, so we tend to use it once in a scheme rather than repeatedly.

We run it as a horizontal band across the lower third of full-length curtains, as a border down the leading edge where a room needs a vertical, and occasionally applied flat to the front of a large cushion or a bolster. Give it a quiet ground, a plain wool or linen, and let the ribbon carry the pattern. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

Applied flat and stitched along both selvedges, with the corners mitred so the two tones turn cleanly. Set the line out with chalk and a long rule before any stitching, since a wide band shows every deviation. Allow the measured run plus 15 per cent for mitres, turnings and a matched pair, and order in one length. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
