DEDAR | Pin010 Braid

Pin010 is a flat braid 22 millimetres wide, plaited in Italy in rayon with a little polyester. The plait is close and even, so the face carries a fine repeating structure and the braid has a small raised profile against the cloth it is applied to. Rayon gives it a quiet lustre along the crowns of the plait and leaves the recesses matt, which is why the band reads as texture rather than as a flat painted stripe.

Composition is 98 per cent rayon with 2 per cent polyester, finished 2.2 centimetres wide. Made in Italy. One colourway, 001 Marzapane-liquirizia, pale cream and near-black worked together through the plait. The alternation gives a fine two-tone pattern close to and a soft grey band at a distance, so it sits comfortably on either a light or a dark ground and never looks like a bought-in stripe.

We use it on curtain leading edges, along the lower edge of a pelmet, round the shaped edge of a fitted valance, and as a single band on the front of a cushion. It also finishes a drum lampshade neatly at both rings. Give it a plain ground, velvet, wool or a close linen, and let it be the only line on the piece. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

Braid is surface-applied rather than seamed in, so it is stitched along both edges, by hand where the finish matters. At corners the braid is mitred by folding it back on itself so the plait turns square and does not bunch. Allow the measured run plus 15 per cent for mitres and turned ends, and order in one continuous length. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
