DEDAR | Pin017 Rouche

Pin017 is a rouche 35 millimetres deep, gathered evenly along the header so the outer edge stands away from the cloth in fine flutes. A single per cent of elastane in the weave lets the band ease round a curve and return straight along a run, which is the difference between a rouche that sits and one that ripples. The rayon takes colour deeply, so the gathers read as their own tone-on-tone shading.

Composition is 96 per cent rayon, 3 per cent polyester and 1 per cent elastane, 3.5 centimetres deep. Made in Italy. Two colourways: 001 Marzapane-liquirizia, cream and near-black together, and 010 Naviglio-marzapane, a canal blue-grey with the same cream. Both are two-tone, so each does the work of a contrast trim on its own; we would use one or the other in a room, not both.

We put it round the border of a scatter cushion, along the hem of a loose seat cover where the gather softens the skirt, and set just inside a headboard seam to break the flatness of a plain upholstered panel. It works with plain wools, linens and chenilles, which give the fluting a calm ground to stand against. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

The flat header is stitched down and the ruffle left proud, so the trim is hand-applied before the last seam closes. On a two-tone rouche the joins want to fall where the colour sequence can be matched, ideally at a back corner. Measure your run, add 10 per cent for corners and returns, and order the whole quantity together. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
