DEDAR | Pin019 Rouche

Pin019 is a gathered rouche, 35 millimetres deep, woven in Italy by Dedar. The pleating is fine and regular, which gives the band a ribbed look close to and a soft blur from across a room. Rayon carries colour deeply, so the fluting reads as tone-on-tone shadow rather than a flat stripe. Worked along an edge it adds a little body, enough to stop a hem looking thin without bringing in the formality of a braid.

Composition is 98 per cent rayon with 2 per cent polyester, finished at 3.5 centimetres. Made in Italy. Eight colourways: 003 Foie gras, 006 Tropico, 009 Paté, 014 Champignon, 019 Caviar, 021 Bordeaux, 024 Aragosta and 026 Crema. The naturals, Champignon, Foie gras and Crema, sink into undyed cloth and are the ones to reach for when the trim is doing structural work; Caviar, Bordeaux and Aragosta are for when the edge is meant to be seen.

We put it round cushion borders, along the bottom hem of a loose chair cover where the gather takes the hard line off a skirt, and now and then as a band set a few centimetres in from the leading edge of a curtain. It works with wool flannels, cotton velvets and heavier linens, and less well with anything already textured. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

The flat header is stitched down and the ruffle left standing, so it goes on by hand once the panel is made up but before the last seam is closed. Give your maker the full run plus about 10 per cent for corners and returns, and order the whole quantity together so the dye lot stays consistent across a pair. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
