DEDAR | Pin026 Ribbon

Pin026 is a flat woven ribbon, 9 centimetres wide, in a linen and cotton mix. It is a plain tape rather than a decorative braid: dry to the hand, matt, with the faint slub irregularity that linen always brings to a weave. At that width it works as a band in its own right, a strip of contrasting texture laid on the face of a cloth rather than a detail tucked into a seam.

Woven in Italy from 52 per cent linen and 48 per cent cotton, finished 9 centimetres wide with clean selvedges on both sides. One colourway, 001 Lino, an undyed natural that sits a shade warmer than bleached cotton and a shade cooler than jute. It is a useful neutral against oatmeal, chalk and mid-greys, and it holds its own on a darker ground without looking like an afterthought.

We apply it as a border on plain curtains, set 10 to 15 centimetres up from the hem so the band reads as a deliberate line; on a Roman blind it can follow the bottom edge and pick up the rod pockets. It also works laid flat across the face of a large floor cushion. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

Because both edges are finished, it is applied flat: your maker stitches along both selvedges and mitres at the corners so the weave turns cleanly. Linen and cotton both move a little, so it wants to be stitched with a slight ease rather than pulled taut, or the band will ripple later. Measure your run, add 15 per cent for mitres and turnings, and order in one length. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
