DEDAR | Pod006 Rouche

Pod006 is a rouche 4 centimetres deep, gathered along one edge and finished flat along the other. The gathers are deeper and more open than on Dedar's finer rouches, so the band stands away from the cloth a little and catches a shadow under itself. It is woven entirely in acrylic, which keeps the colour bright and even and gives the ruffle enough spring to recover after it has been sat against.

Composition is 100 per cent acrylic, 4 centimetres deep, made in Italy. One colourway, 004 Sole, a clear warm yellow with no green in it. It is a colour that needs a calm ground to work against: we would put it on chalk, oatmeal or a mid-grey rather than on anything already patterned, and use it in a single run rather than round every edge in a room.

We use it on cushion borders and on the bottom edge of a loose seat cover, where the depth of the gather softens a hard line. On a child's or a garden room scheme it also works along the hem of a simple cotton curtain. It pairs with plain cottons and washed linens. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

The flat header is stitched down and the ruffle left proud, so it goes on by hand while the cover is still open and the seam accessible. Acrylic holds a crease, so keep the trim rolled rather than folded between delivery and making up, and steam it lightly rather than pressing it flat. Measure your run, add 10 per cent for corners and returns, and order it all at once. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
