DEDAR | Pod007 Lipcord

Pod007 is a substantial lipcord, the cord 2 centimetres in diameter with a flat flange to take it into a seam. At that size it is a piece of structure rather than a fine outline: run round a boxed cushion it gives the whole edge a rolled, upholstered profile. The twist is open enough to catch light along its length, and the acrylic and polyester blend keeps the colour saturated and holds the round section firmly.

Composition is 76 per cent acrylic and 24 per cent polyester, with a 2 centimetre cord. Made in Italy. Eight colourways: 001 Navy, 002 Nero, 003 Rosso, 004 Sole, 007 Lino, 010 Avorio, 011 Bianco and 012 Corallo. Lino, Avorio and Bianco are the ones to use when you want the profile without the colour; Rosso, Sole and Corallo are strong enough to set the palette of a room on their own.

We use it on deep-seated upholstery, ottomans and window seats, where a fine cord would simply be lost against the mass of the piece, and round large floor cushions. It takes plain heavy cloth well, wool, thick cotton and canvas, and we would avoid pairing it with a busy pattern. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it against your cloth.

A cord this size wants an experienced hand: the flange is sewn into the seam but the join needs the two ends unpicked, the strands married and bound, so it should be placed at the least visible corner. Measure the seam, add 20 per cent for joins, corners and a tail at each end, and order it all together. Dedar trims are cut to order and cannot be returned.
