DEDAR | Riptide

This Riptide lays the same continuous, poured gesture over Chapeau, a sartorial pure virgin wool cloth that is matt and woolly and gives the piece a more tailored footing than the textural version. Fine white lines of double Cornely embroidery are worked together with fourteen metres of a coral-toned trimming shot with black and white. The ends of the applied cord are concealed by hand, so the line appears unbroken from one side of the panel to the other, and the relief and the tonal shifts along its length keep the surface alive.

Made in Italy. The ground is 100 per cent virgin wool; the applied trimming is 70 per cent cotton and 30 per cent acrylic. Rated at 45,000 rubs on the Martindale scale, the cushion measures 68 by 85 centimetres. Three colourways: 001 Ivory / Black, 002 Ivory / White and 003 Brown / Bronze / Orange. Ivory / White is the quietest, the pattern read only through relief; the other two put a drawn line into the room.

We use it on a flannel or velvet sofa in a sitting room, on a study chair, or singly at the end of a bed. It goes with plain wool, dark timber and tan leather, and we would keep every cushion beside it flat, plain and unpatterned. Sold individually; made to order in Italy, so allow a few weeks.

The gesture is directional and off-centre, so orientation matters and should be fixed when you order; a mirrored pair looks considered where two identical panels look repeated. The applied cord stands proud of the wool and will catch, so place it where it is seen rather than leant against. Made to order in Italy and not returnable.
