DEDAR | Yume

This Yume works the looped wool motif over Didgeridoo, a raffia and linen ground with a dry, papery weave and a natural lustre. The embroidery is executed from the back of the cloth in curl stitch, so what appears on the face is a billowing tangle of wool curls with real volume to them. The two materials could not be less alike, one crisp and reflective, the other matt and yielding, and the whole point of the piece is the pleasure of putting a hand on both at once.

Made in Italy. The ground is 59 per cent polyamide and 41 per cent linen; the embroidery is 100 per cent virgin wool. The cushion measures 68 by 90 centimetres. There is one colourway, 001 Ivory, in which the wool curls sit a shade softer and warmer than the raffia ground, so the motif is read entirely through texture and shadow rather than through any change of colour.

We use it on a linen sofa, on a bedroom chair, and at the head of a bed where it will be handled. It sits well with boucle, plain wool and rush or cane furniture, and we would not put it next to another textured cushion working at the same scale. Sold individually; made to order in Italy, so allow a few weeks.

The motif is directional and may be set upright, turned or deliberately off-centre, so decide the orientation when the order is placed. Curled wool is lifted and shaken rather than brushed; a snagged loop should be eased back with a needle and never cut. Made to order in Italy and not returnable, so take a sample against your upholstery before committing.
