Loom Stripe is the stripe in George & Minnie's Minnie Prints Wallpapers, drawn to look like a woven stripe, with the slightly broken, thread-like edge of a yarn-dyed cloth rather than a ruled line. It is a simple idea done nicely. On the wall it behaves like a ticking: it adds height, gives a room a rhythm, and gets on with almost anything you put in front of it.
It is printed on a 100 per cent non-woven backing, 52 centimetres wide, with a horizontal repeat of 10 centimetres and no vertical repeat, so it is a free match and there is next to no waste. There are six colourways: Grass/Aqua, Ochre/Walnut, Denim, Emerald/Raspberry, Aqua/Coral and Parchment. The paired colours give you a two-tone stripe; Denim and Parchment are one colour on the ground and the most restful.
We use it in bedrooms and bathrooms, in narrow halls and on staircases where the vertical line does some work, and as a partner to a floral: Rosie or Secret Garden at the windows with Loom Stripe on the walls in one of the same colours is a scheme that always looks considered. It is also very good behind open shelves. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Non-woven papers are usually hung paste-the-wall, and with a free match you simply cut each drop to the wall height plus a little for trimming, so, assuming the usual 10 metre roll, a 2.4 metre high wall gives four drops per roll and a wall 3.5 metres long needs seven drops and two rolls. Stripes show any lean, so plumb the first drop carefully and check the walls are true before you start; in an old house a stripe can be used to disguise a wall that is not.
