Minnie's Garden is one of the statement florals in George & Minnie's Wallpaper Volume One: a full, drawn garden of flowers and leaves, loose and slightly untidy in the way a real border is, on a pale ground. It was drawn in the brand's London studio and it has the cheerful, vintage-cottage character that the whole collection is built on. On a wall it is generous without being heavy, because the drawing has air in it.
It is printed on a 100 per cent non-woven backing, 52 centimetres wide, with a vertical repeat of 62 centimetres. There are five colourways: Aqua, Raspberry/Daffodil, Ink, Periwinkle/Emerald and Blush. The single colours, Aqua, Ink and Blush, are the more restrained and read like a toile from across the room; the two-colour versions are the full garden and want a room that can take them.
We would hang it in a bedroom on every wall, with plain curtains and Checkers or Ribbon Stripe on the headboard in one of its colours, or in a dining room where you want the walls to be the decoration and the furniture plain. It is also a good paper for a cloakroom, where a floral this full is a pleasure rather than a commitment. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Non-woven papers are normally hung paste-the-wall; check the label for the match type, as a floral this size is often a half-drop. The roll is 52 centimetres wide; assuming the usual 10 metre length, a 2.4 metre high wall gives three drops per roll after the 62 centimetre repeat is allowed for, so a wall 3.5 metres long needs seven drops and three rolls, with a spare. Centre the pattern on the main wall and let the corners take the part-drops.
