Mythical Trail is the chinoiserie-flavoured design in George & Minnie's first wallpaper volume: a winding trail of foliage with fanciful creatures tucked among the leaves, drawn in the brand's London studio and given a playful, storybook air. The 70 centimetre repeat is the largest in the group, so the trail climbs a wall in long, unbroken sweeps rather than short hops. It is decorative in the proper sense, a paper that gives a room a narrative.
It is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with a 70 centimetre vertical repeat. There are 6 colourways: Aqua, Grass, Ink, Emerald, Walnut/Emerald and Blush. Aqua and Blush are the light, bedroom-friendly options; Grass and Emerald are for a room that wants to feel like a garden; Ink gives the trail a night-time quality that is very good in a dining room, and Walnut/Emerald is the one for old houses and dark furniture. The same design is printed on linen as a fabric in the Volume One collection.
We would give Mythical Trail a whole room rather than a feature wall, ideally a dining room, a guest bedroom or a hall where you pass through and keep noticing things. Keep the window plain, use the matching linen sparingly, on a cushion or a blind, and let the paper do the work. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
It is paste-the-wall: paste the wall, hang the dry lengths and butt the joins, and it strips dry later. With a 70 centimetre repeat, allow a full repeat per drop for matching and expect more offcut than on a small print; a good decorator will plan the drops so that the creatures sit well at eye level. As a rough guide, a 4 metre wall at standard ceiling height takes around 3 rolls; measure, add a margin, and order from one batch.
