Puzzlewood is the woodland design in George & Minnie's Wallpaper Volume One, named after the tangled ancient wood in the Forest of Dean. It is a leafy, branching pattern drawn in the brand's London studio, with the growth wandering across the width so that the drops knit into one continuous thicket rather than a row of repeated motifs. The scale is confident; this is a paper for people who want a room to feel like the inside of a hedge, in the best sense.
It is printed on a 100 per cent non-woven backing, 52 centimetres wide, with a long vertical repeat of 77 centimetres. There are five colourways: Aqua, Blush, Periwinkle, Emerald and Daffodil, each a single colour on a pale ground, so the design is busy in line but calm in colour. Emerald is the most literal, Blush and Daffodil the most surprising, and Periwinkle the one we would choose for a north-facing room.
We would hang it in a bedroom, on all four walls with the ceiling left plain, with curtains in the matching Puzzlewood linen or, if that feels like too much, in George Ticking picked to the same colour. It also makes a good dining room in a country house, where the single colour keeps it from competing with the table. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
With a 77 centimetre repeat the waste is real, so plan the drops before you order. The roll is 52 centimetres wide; assuming the usual 10 metre length, a 2.4 metre high wall gives you three drops per roll, so a 3.5 metre wall needs seven drops and three rolls, plus a spare from the same batch. Non-woven papers are usually hung paste-the-wall; check the label for the match type, and start from the centre of the main wall so the pattern is symmetrical either side of a window or fireplace.
