GP & J Baker | Amberley

Amberley is a Portobello print with rayon added to its cotton-linen ground, which gives the printed surface a little extra sheen and a softer drape than a pure linen print. The 58 by 63.5 centimetre repeat sits at a comfortable mid-scale, generous enough to read clearly without needing a very wide window, and the pale Parchment ground keeps it usable in almost any room in a house, from a formal sitting room to a plain cottage bedroom.

Composition is 37 per cent cotton, 35 per cent rayon and 28 per cent linen. It is 127 centimetres wide, with a 58 centimetre vertical and 63.5 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains. There is one colourway, Parchment, a warm, pale neutral print.

We use Amberley for curtains in a room that wants texture and pattern without strong colour, a bedroom or a garden room in particular, where the parchment tone stays quiet against white and pale timber. It also makes a good blind, and a length of it used as a table cloth or a runner brings the print into a dining room without committing a whole window to it. Pair it with a plain linen in a soft green or blue. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow one repeat per drop and match across widths at the 63.5 centimetre horizontal interval. Line and interline curtains for a good fall; the added rayon gives Amberley more natural drape than a straight linen-cotton print.
