Art Stitch is one of the geometric embroideries in Winslow: an abstract, two-colour pattern of stitched shapes and lines arranged in an even repeat on a linen ground. It reads as a modern textile rather than a traditional embroidery and gives the collection its contemporary edge. At 41 by 44 centimetres it patterns evenly and works on small pieces as well as at a window. It is the design we reach for when a scheme needs something angular against the florals.
The composition is 75 per cent linen, 19 per cent viscose, 3 per cent cotton and 3 per cent polyester, the minor fibres being the embroidery threads. It is 132 centimetres wide with a 41 centimetre vertical and 44 centimetre horizontal repeat, and it is specified for curtains and bedspreads. Two colourways: Aqua/Ochre, a blue-green with a mustard, and Rose/Blue, a soft pink with a mid blue. Both are pairings that work as accents in an otherwise neutral room.
We use it for roman blinds, cushions and a bedspread border, and as a pair of curtains in a study or a child's room where a floral is not wanted. It is the design we put alongside the florals in the collection to sharpen them. Pair with plain linens in either colour. In a study it makes a good pair of short curtains, and on a bench squab it holds its own against plain leather. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Keep the geometry level: cut on the grain and match across widths so the pattern reads straight. Allow one repeat per drop. Line and interline curtains; blinds want a firm lining. It is not rated for upholstery. For cushions, centre a motif and keep the seams on a line of the pattern.
