Baker House FR Velvet is the flame-retardant velvet in GP & J Baker's House collection: a plain, plush pile woven from FR-treated polyester, so the colour sits solid and even and the interest lies in the pile's depth rather than in any printed pattern. It is built for hard wear, and the FR treatment makes it a natural choice wherever fire regulations apply, from a hotel headboard to a restaurant banquette.
It is 100 per cent polyester FR and 140 centimetres wide, rated at a substantial 100,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery even under commercial-level use. GP & J Baker specify it for fixed upholstery. Thirty colourways span pale neutrals such as Flax, Stone and Parchment, warm browns like Nutmeg and Chestnut, Coral, jewel tones including Mulberry, Teal and Indigo, and greens from Grass to Forest, so there is a workable shade for almost any scheme.
We specify it for a sofa, a banquette or a headboard that needs to earn its keep, particularly in a busy household or a contract setting where the FR rating matters as much as the looks. Indigo or Teal give real depth to a bedhead; pale neutrals such as Flax or Stone are easiest across a large piece. Pair with a house print on a cushion for contrast, or keep a room entirely tonal for a quieter feel. Order a sample to check the pile and colour in your own light.
With no pattern to match, cutting is straightforward, but every panel should be cut with the pile running the same direction so the colour reads consistently under changing light. It is a fixed-upholstery cloth rather than one for curtains, so keep it to furniture. Ask your upholsterer about pile crush in high-traffic areas, and dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron it.
