GP & J Baker | Baker House Stripe

Baker House Stripe is the woven companion to Baker House Plain: a fine, even stripe with a 3 centimetre horizontal repeat, woven rather than printed, so the colour sits in the yarn itself and the stripe has a slightly raised, textural quality rather than a flat line. It is a quieter stripe than Laverton, with a repeat too fine to read as anything but texture from across a room.

The cloth is 52 per cent polyester, 32 per cent viscose and 16 per cent linen, and it is 138 centimetres wide with a 3 centimetre horizontal repeat. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Four colourways: Nutmeg, Sienna, Yellow and Graphite, a tight, useful run from warm neutrals to one clear yellow and one grey, chosen to sit comfortably alongside the Baker House Plain palette.

We use it for curtains where the Baker House Plain range wants a little more movement, and for upholstery on a chair that sits alongside a plain sofa. Yellow is the one we reach for when a room needs a single note of brightness; Graphite is the easiest to place against dark timber and works well on a pair of occasional chairs. Keep the stripe level and match the repeat at every seam; ask your maker to cut all pieces on the same grain so the fine line runs true. Line and interline curtains for a proper hang.
