GP & J Baker | Bamboo Bird

Bamboo Bird belongs to the Crayford collection, GP & J Baker's archive of documentary prints, and pairs naturally with Persian Pomegranate from the same range. The design sets birds among stylised bamboo in a square 68 by 68 centimetre repeat on a pure linen ground, a chinoiserie-influenced composition typical of the historic patterns the Crayford archive draws on, with a hand-drawn quality to the linework that marks it out from a contemporary print.

The cloth is 100 per cent linen and 137 centimetres wide, with a 68 centimetre repeat both vertically and horizontally. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. There is one colourway, Aqua/Teal, a cool, watery blue-green that reads as fresh rather than heavy, well suited to a print built around birds and foliage rather than a dense, formal repeat.

We use it for curtains in a room that wants a single, confident botanical print, and it makes an elegant bedspread with the birds reading clearly across the width of a bed. It pairs naturally with Persian Pomegranate on a cushion or a chair for a considered, layered scheme drawn entirely from the Crayford archive, or with a plain linen in a matching blue-green for a calmer, quieter room. Allow one full repeat per drop and match carefully across widths so the birds align at the seams rather than breaking awkwardly across a join.
