GP & J Baker | Benaki

Benaki is woven for the Caspian collection, a linen, viscose and polyester ground with a 29 by 31.5 centimetre repeat that reads as a fine, close texture rather than a bold pattern. It has the settled, quietly worked quality that runs through GP & J Baker's house weaves, in a single clear teal colourway, and its name recalls the great museum collections of historic textiles in Athens, fitting for a house so rooted in its own archive of documents and designs.

Composition is 60 per cent linen, 24 per cent polyester and 16 per cent viscose. It is 126 centimetres wide, with a 29 centimetre vertical and 31.5 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains. There is one colourway, Aqua, a clear blue-green.

We use Benaki for curtains in a room that wants colour without a bold pattern, a bathroom-adjacent bedroom or a garden room in particular, where the aqua tone suits the setting. It also makes a good blind, and a window seat covered in a plain aqua or teal ties back to a pair of Benaki curtains without repeating the texture. A set of cushions cut from an offcut is an easy way to carry the colour onto a plain sofa elsewhere in the house. Pair it with white, pale oak or a plain cream.
