Birds & Cherries is the softer, viscose-linen version of the bird-and-cherry-branch print from GP & J Baker's Originals Brantwood collection, the archive of naturalist studies named for Ruskin's house Brantwood on Coniston Water in the Lake District. The design sits at a neat 34 by 34.5 centimetre scale, close to its cotton sibling, but the viscose-rich ground gives the printed colour more sheen and the cloth a noticeably softer fall at a window than the plainer, crisper cotton version gives it.
The cloth is 33 per cent linen and 67 per cent viscose, a blend chosen for drape rather than crispness, and it is 138 centimetres wide, with a 34 centimetre vertical and 34.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and upholstery. There is one colourway, Green/Blue, a cool, natural pairing that reads true to the bird-and-branch subject and sits well against stone, timber or pale oak.
We use it for curtains where the softer ground shows its drape properly, and it covers a lightly used chair or window seat well. It pairs naturally with Birds & Cherries Cotton in the same design, one for curtains with more movement and one for a crisper, more upholstery-ready piece in the very same working room. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow a full repeat per drop and match the print across widths so the birds and branches continue cleanly at every single seam. Line and interline curtains, since printed colour on a viscose-rich ground fades faster than a woven yarn-dyed cloth would; for upholstery, plan the pattern placement carefully with your workroom before the piece is cut.
