Bradbourne is the smallest-scale embroidery in the Langdale collection, a neat stitched geometric worked across a linen-rich ground with a tight 20 by 15 centimetre repeat. Where Calthorpe and Elvaston read as botanicals, Bradbourne reads as a texture, the kind of quiet, orderly stitch you put on a chair or a blind so a bolder pattern elsewhere in the room has something calm to sit against.

The composition is 64 per cent linen, 30 per cent polyester and 6 per cent viscose, the polyester and viscose carrying the stitch. It is 125 centimetres wide, with a 20 centimetre vertical and 15 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker tested it to 14,000 Martindale rubs, specifying it for curtains and upholstery. Two colourways, Stone and Indigo; Stone is the quieter neutral, Indigo the one we reach for when a scheme needs a note of blue.

We use it for roman blinds, for a small armchair or a pair of dining chairs where a rub count of 14,000 suits occasional rather than daily use, and for cushions on a plain sofa. It pairs naturally with Calthorpe or Elvaston from the same collection, taking the role a plain would usually play, and it is equally at home lining the inside of a cupboard door or a window seat box. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

The small repeat wastes little fabric; allow 20 centimetres per drop for matching. Line blinds and curtains, and for upholstery keep Bradbourne to lightly used pieces rather than a family sofa, since 14,000 rubs is a modest figure next to the collection's heavier weaves; a firm lining helps the small stitch read crisply when a blind is down.
