GP & J Baker | Brantwood Cotton

Brantwood Cotton is the eponymous print of GP & J Baker's Originals Brantwood collection, the archive of naturalist botanical studies named for Ruskin's house on Coniston Water in the Lake District. It is drawn at a generous, confident scale, 43 by 69.5 centimetres, printed on a pure cotton ground, so the pattern has real presence rather than settling into background texture, and it reads as the collection's signature design.

The cloth is 100 per cent cotton, 139 centimetres wide, with a 43 centimetre vertical and 69.5 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker tested it to 20,000 Martindale rubs, a figure that suits curtains and occasional-use pieces, specifying it for curtains and upholstery. Two colourways, Coral/Sand and Teal; Coral/Sand is the warmer of the two, Teal the cooler, more contemporary option that suits a plainer room.

We would hang it as curtains in a sitting room or garden room, where the generous repeat has space to unfold, and it covers a lightly used chair or an ottoman well. The same archive design is printed onto a cotton velvet ground as Brantwood Velvet, which makes a good companion for cushions or a second chair in the same scheme, so the naturalist print can be used together across a room.
