Broughton Rose prints the rose at a domestic, recognisable scale, drawn among its own foliage on a non-woven ground with a 63 by 52 centimetre repeat, part of the same Ashmore collection as Eltham and Summer Peony. The rose is drawn with enough individual petal detail that it reads as a botanical study rather than a generic floral repeat, closer to a garden illustration than a stylised, flattened motif.
The paper is a 100 per cent non-woven base, 52 centimetres wide, with a 63 centimetre vertical and 52 centimetre horizontal repeat. Five colourways: Blue, Blush, Green and Aqua each give the rose a single ground colour, while Indigo/Red is the most contrasting and traditional of the group, closer in spirit to a classic English rose chintz than the others.
We would hang Blush or Green in a bedroom that wants a soft, romantic floral, and Indigo/Red in a more formal dining room or hallway where the stronger contrast earns its place. Pair it with a plain linen in one of its component colours for curtains and cushions, keeping other pattern in the room to a considered minimum. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room, since the five colourways vary quite widely in mood.
Match the rose motifs carefully at each seam so the repeat continues without an obvious break; with a 63 centimetre repeat, allow for a reasonable amount of wastage when ordering, and buy the full quantity from a single dye batch. Roll length is not given on this listing, so check the label before ordering; as a guide, allow three to four rolls for an average wall once matching is accounted for.
