Calcot is a small-scale print from GP & J Baker's House Small Prints collection, sized to sit quietly behind a bolder pattern or to furnish a whole room on its own. The repeat is tight, 18 by 15 centimetres, printed on a viscose-linen ground, so the design reads as an even, granular texture rather than a motif you would centre deliberately on a cushion or a chair, closer in effect to a plain than a print.
The cloth is 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen, a blend that favours drape and a gentle sheen in the printed colour. It is 135 centimetres wide, with an 18 centimetre vertical and 15 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and upholstery. Five colourways: Indigo, Green/Blue, Red, Aqua and Blue/Sand; Indigo is the one we reach for most, a deep, even blue that works in almost any scheme without a second thought.
We use it for curtains in a bedroom or sitting room that wants a quiet, textural pattern, and it covers a chair or window seat well where the small scale reads cleanly up close.
