Chatto is a printed design from the Ashmore collection, GP & J Baker's understated line of painterly botanicals and birds in a soft, contemporary palette. The repeat is a modest 34 by 45 centimetres, small enough that the pattern settles into an even, all-over print rather than asking to be centred on a single piece, and the pure linen ground keeps the colour looking natural rather than glossy, with a matte, absorbed finish typical of the collection.
The cloth is 100 per cent linen, 135 centimetres wide, with a 34 centimetre vertical and 45 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and upholstery. Three colourways: Blush, Blue and Green; Blush is the softer of the three, while Blue and Green sit closer to a contemporary, cooler palette that suits a plainer room.
We use it for curtains in a bedroom or sitting room that wants pattern without too much weight, and it covers a chair or a window seat well where the smaller repeat reads cleanly at close range. Pair Blush with warm timber and cream, and Blue or Green with a plainer, more architectural room built around grey and oak, keeping the rest of the scheme simple. Allow a full repeat per drop and match the print across widths, since the modest scale shows any drift at the seams more readily than a larger design would.
