Chifu is the collection's eponymous design, one of the iconic prints GP & J Baker has brought back from its archive to anchor the collection, its chinoiserie-inflected botanical set at a 78 by 66.5 centimetre repeat on a pure linen ground. The scale is generous enough for the pattern to read clearly across a curtain or a chair back without needing a very wide window or a large room to show it off properly.
The cloth is 100 per cent linen, printed to give the design a crisp, absorbed line typical of Baker's heritage prints. It is 133 centimetres wide, with a 78 centimetre vertical and 66.5 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker tested it to 20,000 Martindale rubs, a figure that suits curtains and occasional rather than daily-use upholstery. Three colourways: Indigo, Ochre/Blue and Teal; Indigo and Teal are the cooler, easiest options to build a scheme around.
We use it for a pair of curtains in a sitting room or bedroom, where the repeat has room to unfold across a generous drop, and it covers a chair seat or a generous ottoman well at a smaller scale. Pair Ochre/Blue with warm timber and brass, and Indigo or Teal with stone and cool metals. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow a full 78 centimetre repeat per drop and match the print across widths so the motif continues cleanly at the seams. Line curtains as standard, and interline for a bright room to protect the printed colour from fading in strong sun. At 20,000 rubs, keep upholstery to lightly used pieces rather than a family sofa in daily use.
