GP & J Baker | Clevedon

Clevedon is an Essential Weaves design with acrylic and a little polyamide in the blend alongside cotton, viscose and linen, giving it a softer, slightly more resilient hand than the house weaves built on natural fibres alone. Like its stablemates the repeat is tiny, at 4 by 4 centimetres, so the surface reads as an even ground rather than a pattern, and the cool Mineral colourway makes it one of the more contemporary-reading plains in the range.

Composition is 43 per cent cotton, 32 per cent viscose, 14 per cent acrylic, 8 per cent linen and 3 per cent nylon. It is 140 centimetres wide, tested to 35,000 rubs on the Martindale, which is comfortably rated for upholstery, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and both loose and fixed upholstery. There is one colourway, Mineral, a cool, soft grey.

We use Clevedon on a sofa or a headboard where a cool neutral is wanted, and equally as curtains in the same scheme to unify the room. It suits a bedroom or a bathroom-adjacent dressing room particularly well, where the grey reads calm rather than cold against white and pale oak, and it is a good choice for a window seat base that needs to coordinate with a cooler colour palette. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

At 35,000 rubs this is a genuine upholstery weight; discuss railroading with your upholsterer for a wide sofa run. There is essentially no pattern to match, given the 4 centimetre repeat, so order on drop and width. For curtains, line as usual for a good fall, and order from one batch to keep the cool grey consistent across a run.
