Cubby is the plain in the Kit Kemp wallpaper collections: a textured paper developed to give the look and warmth of fabric-covered walls without the cost or the fitting. The surface has a fine, woven-looking texture that softens light and hides small imperfections in the wall, and because it is a plain it lets the patterned papers and fabrics in a room do the talking. It is the paper we use most from the range. It is also the paper we specify when a client wants colour on the walls but a painted finish feels too flat.
It is a non-woven, paste-the-wall paper on a standard 10 metre by 52 centimetre roll, with no pattern repeat to match. Twenty-five colourways: Flax, Cloud, Buff, Champagne, Desert, Parchment, Spice, Clementine, Plaster, Soft Red, Soft Blue, Ocean, Teal, Denim, Blue, Aqua, Olive, Grass, Cardamon, Spring Green, Forest, Sunshine, Ochre, Mist and Pebble. The neutrals are the workhorses; the colours are keyed to the Kit Kemp patterns.
We use it on three walls of a room where a Kit Kemp pattern is on the fourth, on all four walls of a bedroom where the fabric is doing the work, and in corridors and stairwells where a plain with texture is kinder than paint. Pair it with any of the collection's papers or with plain linens. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
With no repeat there is little waste: a 3 metre wall at 2.4 metres high takes about 2 rolls, six drops of 2.4 metres from two 10 metre rolls. Paste the wall, hang dry and reverse alternate drops only if the label asks for it. Keep the batch consistent across a room. It takes pictures and mirrors well because the texture hides small fixings.
