Dryden is a botanical print from the Cosmopolitan collection, printed at a generous scale with a horizontal repeat that runs the full 130 centimetre width, so the pattern trails across a curtain in a single continuous sweep rather than in visible blocks. It is a print with some formality to it, suited to a room that wants pattern with a little polish rather than a country-house floral.
The composition is 54 per cent linen and 46 per cent rayon, which softens the linen's hand and adds a little sheen to the printed colour. It is 130 centimetres wide, with a 66 centimetre vertical repeat and a 130 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and upholstery. Two colourways: Aqua/Bronze, a blue-green with a warm metallic note, and Teal/Gilt, a deeper, more formal pairing. Both carry a touch of metallic colour without being a true metallic print.
We use it for curtains in a formal sitting room or dining room, where the full-width repeat can be appreciated across a generous window, and it upholsters a statement chair well. Pair Aqua/Bronze with warm timber and brass, and Teal/Gilt with darker woodwork and cream, keeping the rest of the room's fabrics plain. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Because the horizontal repeat is the full cloth width, lay the widths out with your maker before cutting so the print continues unbroken across a pair of curtains. Allow a full vertical repeat per drop. Line and interline curtains to protect the printed colour from sun, and for upholstery centre the motif carefully on the main panel of a chair before the rest of the cut is marked out.
