GP & J Baker | Durbar

Durbar is the other Caspian design in this slice, a cotton and polyester weave with a considerably larger repeat than Benaki, at 78 by 64 centimetres, which gives it a slower, more generous pattern across a width of curtain. The name recalls the grand ceremonial courts of the historic Indian subcontinent, fitting for a design with real scale and presence, and the same clear aqua colourway links it back to Benaki within the collection, so the two can be mixed in one house.

Composition is 68 per cent cotton and 32 per cent polyester. It is 128 centimetres wide, with a 78 centimetre vertical and 64 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains. There is one colourway, Aqua, a clear blue-green.

We use Durbar for full-length curtains in a sitting room or principal bedroom, where the generous repeat has room to read properly, and its scale makes it a good choice for a single striking window rather than a run of several. Pair it with a plain linen in the same aqua or a warm cream, or with Benaki itself for a scheme that wants two related scales of the same colour.
