GP & J Baker | Emperor's Garden

Emperor's Garden is a printed wallpaper and the signature design of GP & J Baker's collection of the same name, a garden scene worked at a generous 61 by 52 centimetre scale on a non-woven ground built for straightforward hanging. The design has enough presence to carry a wall on its own, the kind of paper we use where a room wants a single, considered surface rather than a run of pattern repeated in miniature across every wall, and it reads as confidently by lamplight as it does in daylight.

The paper has a non-woven construction, printed rather than embossed, and the roll is 52 centimetres wide, with a 61 centimetre vertical and 52 centimetre horizontal repeat that runs the full roll width. Two colourways, Soft Green and Blush; Soft Green is the quieter, more garden-like option, Blush the softer, more romantic one that suits a bedroom or a dressing room particularly well.

We use it on a single feature wall in a hallway, dining room or bedroom, where the generous repeat has room to read properly, and it is calm enough to sit behind furniture rather than compete with it for attention. Keep the rest of the room's pattern to a minimum, in plain fabrics and paint, so the paper carries the interest. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Non-woven papers hang paste-the-wall rather than paste-the-paper, which makes trimming and matching more forgiving than a traditional pulp paper. As a rule of thumb, a European roll in this width covers a little over five square metres once pattern matching is allowed for, so measure the wall's height and perimeter carefully before ordering, and confirm exact roll quantities with us before committing to a full room.
