Fretwork is a geometric wallpaper from GP & J Baker's Emperor's Garden collection, the lattice companion to the collection's signature garden scene, worked at a 53 by 52 centimetre scale on a non-woven ground built for straightforward hanging. Where the collection's signature print leans botanical, Fretwork is architectural in character, the kind of paper we reach for when a room wants structure and rhythm to set against the garden scene rather than a second print competing with it, and it reads as sharply by daylight as it does under lamplight in the evening.
The paper has a non-woven construction, printed rather than embossed, and the roll is 52 centimetres wide, with a 53 centimetre vertical and 52 centimetre horizontal repeat that runs the roll's full width. There is one colourway, Charcoal, a deep, even grey that reads as graphic rather than soft, and holds its own confidently without needing any other colour in the room to support it.
We use it in a hallway, study or powder room, where the crisp lattice pattern gives a small space some real architecture without introducing colour, and it pairs well with plain paint or a plain fabric elsewhere in the scheme. Keep lighting simple and directional so the geometry reads cleanly and crisply across the whole wall. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Non-woven papers hang paste-the-wall rather than paste-the-paper, which makes trimming and matching more forgiving than a traditional pulp paper. As a rule of thumb, a European roll in this width covers a little over five square metres once pattern matching is allowed for, so measure the wall's height and perimeter carefully before ordering, and confirm exact roll quantities with us before committing to a full room's worth.
