GP & J Baker | Fritillerie

Fritillerie is the softer, viscose-linen version of the fritillary print from GP & J Baker's Originals Brantwood collection, the naturalist archive named for Ruskin's house on Coniston Water in the Lake District. The chequered spring flower is drawn at an even 33 by 34 centimetre scale, close to its cotton sibling, but the viscose-rich ground gives the printed colour more sheen and the cloth itself a noticeably softer fall at a window than the plainer cotton version gives.

The cloth is 67 per cent viscose and 33 per cent linen, a blend chosen for drape rather than crispness, and it is 137 centimetres wide, with a 33 centimetre vertical and 34 centimetre horizontal repeat. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and upholstery. There is one colourway, Blue, a clear, even tone that suits both a period room and a plainer, more contemporary one built around soft grey and pale oak.

We use it for curtains where the softer ground shows its drape properly, and it covers a lightly used chair or window seat well. It pairs naturally with Fritillerie Cotton or Fritillerie Velvet in the very same design, letting one archive print run across curtains, cushions and a chair in the same room without introducing a second, competing pattern anywhere. Allow a full repeat per drop and match the print across widths so the flower continues cleanly at every seam. Line and interline curtains, since printed colour on a viscose-rich ground fades faster than a woven yarn-dyed cloth; for upholstery, plan the pattern placement carefully with your workroom before the piece is cut.
